Timothy Richard Zacharewski
Timothy Richard Zacharewski is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and member of the Institute for Integrative at Michigan State University. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Toxicology in 1990 from Texas A&M University in the laboratory of Dr. Stephen Safe. He has been pursuing research interests in the areas of mechanistic toxicology. More recently, his researched has focused on aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)-mediated metabolic reprogamming related to hepatotoxicity and the progression of steatosis to steatohepatitis with fibrosis, which closely pareeles the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed research papers. He was a member of the National Academies of Science’s Emerging Issues in Environmental Health Sciences, and Identifying and Assessing Unintended Effects of Genetically Engineered Foods on Human Health committees, and has served as a consultant to the National Centers for Toxicogenomics, the Science Advisory Board for the US Environmental Protection Agency, the International Life Sciences Institute/Health & Environmental Sciences Institute Technical Committee on the Application of Genomics to Mechanism-Based Risk Assessment, and the Science Advisory Panel for CIIT Centers for Health Research.
Ting Ruan is a professor in the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2006, and received the Ph.D. degree in Environmental Science in 2011 from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences in the laboratory of Prof. Guibin Jiang. The research interest focuses on identification of novel environmental organic pollutants by using advanced analytical methodologies, including non-target screening by high resolution mass spectrometry, and prediction by quantitative structure-property relationship models. Experiences have been gained on presence, partitioning, transport behaviors, and transformation mechanisms of emerging halogenated chemicals. He was a member of the expert group to finalize the UNEP guideline document “PFAS analysis in water for the global monitoring plan of the Stockholm Convention: Set-up and guidelines for monitoring”, and serves as the guest editors to organize the special issues in TrAC-Trend. Anal. Chem. and Environ. Sci. Technol. journals.
